I study Russian and Yiddish literature from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries with a focus on how writers in both of these traditions dealt with the idea of secularism and secular literature. I'm interested in approaches to literature which are informed by formalism, narratology, and religious studies. I also love teaching: language, Russian literature, Yiddish literature.

My undergraduate education was at Occidental College in Los Angeles. In between that degree and èצӰÏñ, I taught English language and American literature in Elabuga (a small town in central Tatarstan) through the Fulbright program and translated stories by Maya Kucherskaya in association with the American Literary Translators Association (ALTA).
